Message From Principal

Maryanne Hills - Principal

I consider it a privilege to be the Principal of Horizon College International (HCI) and I am excited about serving the children and families of our school. I look forward to forming strong, supportive relationships with them, for I believe that a strong bond between the home and school is a key ingredient in developing happy, well rounded personalities.

As I begin my 1st year as the founder Principal of HCI, my 12th year as a School Principal, and my 33rd year as an Educationist I feel more energized than ever, about teaching and guiding children. As the famous Chinese philosopher Kuan Tsu has stated

When planning for a year sow corn
When planning for a decade plant a tree
When planning for a life time train and educate men.

Here at HCI we are "planning for a life time" for our students. Therefore our teaching staff will ignite in them the fire of curiosity, through modern teaching methodology, in state of the art classrooms. Children with lively minds and keen spirits will thrive at HCI.

Nestled in an eco friendly salubrious environment overlooking a vast expanse of lush green paddy fields Horizon College International stands tall. Horizon College International is presently the only one of its kind in Sri Lanka, where an education programme is offered, from Playgroup to Post Graduate studies all in one campus.

HCI will serve both Sri Lankan students and those from the international community. Thus it is our responsibility to ensure that all our students feel welcome, safe and secure. With this in mind we have set up classroom practices that help students easily adjust to their new school HCI and make learning fun. The curriculum at the primary level will be activity based learning that encourages creativity. The College will follow the Cambridge curriculum that is a popular and widely accepted syllabus in the world of education today.

It is now our challenge, to not only have students meet the benchmarks for passing International Examinations, but to rise to even higher levels of achievement. In this age of accountability and testing, it is also our duty to be cognizant that education is much more than teaching standards and preparing students for tests. “Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire”. More importantly, education is designed to develop students who can critically analyze and problem solve. We want our students to learn the skills necessary to apply and transfer their learning to new situations, both in and out of classroom. Thereby equipping them with the necessary armour to face the challenges of the 21st century with confidence.

The staff at HCI is committed to providing a quality education to all students. With the support of parents and community we can help all our children reach their full potential. Choosing a quality International education is an important exciting decision and a worthwhile step towards adulthood. It is much more than comparing factual information. The style of a school, its sense of community and purpose and above all its atmosphere will be extremely important factors in how your child develops. HCI offers its students the opportunity to achieve academically; while experiencing different sporting activities such as swimming, basketball, netball, badminton, tennis and chess to name a few, in a warm and caring environment and atmosphere.

HCI will always welcome students from different cultures and learning backgrounds. We value the opportunity to have International students as part of our community. In order to make this dream a reality the management has decided that the next mile stone at HCI will be to make it also a quality Boarding School. It is our goal to help all students find success at HCI. We look forward to a great future.
